Second surgery is this Thursday April 9th
This Thursday April 9th I will have my second and hopefully final surgery on my jaw. Major surgery will be performed again on both my upper and lower sections. While my appearance on the outside is great, the chewing on the inside is difficult. Also I am experiencing some very annoying popping in my joint on the left side. I am having the second surgery to finish what I started.
This time my new surgeon has a less than 1% rate of patients having to come back a second time, which gives me hope that this is going to fix my jaw issues.
1. In my first surgery I was under anesthesia for 8 hours. My new surgeon says my surgery will last for 2.5 hours. This has a chance of significantly reducing post-surgery swelling from what I experienced last time.
2. In my first surgery I drooled for around to weeks since I was so swollen that I was unable to keep my mouth closed. My new surgeon says his patients don't drool.
3. In my first surgery I had a catheter in my you know what. It was removed when I was in the recovery room, and was one of the most painful things I've ever experienced. My new surgeon says he won't use a catheter.
My hope is that this recovery will be easier than last time. We'll find out this Thursday when I go in. One positive thing about this second surgery is that it will make my blog here unique, being able to give two perspectives from the same person, using two different surgeons. I wish I could say I was doing this a second time for everyone else, but I think we all know that'd be untrue!
