Second Jaw Surgery Recovery Days 22-25: Almost unwired
Today is day 25. My second surgery was on April 9th. I'll have my jaw unwired in three days. My jaw was wired this time to ensure that it heals properly. I'm kind of used to my jaw being wired now, so it's not really as awful as some people might think. There's little to no pain, and when there is a hint of pain it's usually no worse than a 2 or 3 out of 10.
In four days I will have rubber bands put into my mouth. I'm not sure how long I'll need to keep them, but I am hoping it's not too long. I can deal with having them two weeks, but I am hoping it won't be eight weeks. I get the feeling they'll recommend 4-8 weeks. Eight weeks of rubber bands will mean that I'll get them out three months after my surgery.
17 days from now I'll have the splint removed from my upper jaw. I look forward to that day because that means it will have been six weeks since my surgery.
I've been continuing with soup, Ensure, water and Gatorade. It's ok, but I'm craving real food more than ever before.
I visited The San Diego Zoo for the second time this past weekend. I have a membership so it's about time that I went back for a return visit. I got hungry while I was out, so I stopped by a gas station and picked up the liquid product that looked like it packed the most protein: Nesquik. It only kept me from being hungry for about an hour.
The next time I check in here on the website, I am hoping to say that I am unwired and that my jaw is opening and closing without issues. I expect it may be a few weeks before I am able to chew, but I am hoping for sooner.
